Thai deputy PM resigns from AMLO
THAILAND: Deputy premier Chavalit Yongchaiyudh stepped down on Tuesday from his role overseeing the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to take responsibility for an asset probes scandal.
"I have informed the prime minister that I wish to resign from overseeing AMLO, as well as the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), because I have to take responsibility (for the probes)," he told reporters.
A government-appointed committee ruled on Monday that two senior members of AMLO will face disciplinary measures for the office's controversial probe into the assets of prominent media figures.
The committee found AMLO was responsible for ordering the probes targeting editors from the independent Nation Multimedia Group and Naew Na newspaper, which have been prominent critics of the government. --AFP
