Thai banking assets up
BANGKOK (AFP): The total assets of Thailand's 15 commercial banks reached 4.5 trillion baht (US$180 billion) in 1995, a 20.1 percent jump over the previous year, the Thai Farmers Research Center said yesterday.
The four largest banks, Bangkok Bank, Krung Thai Bank, Thai Farmers Bank, and Siam Commercial Bank, which control 60.6 percent of the market share, reported asset growth of 384.4 billion baht, up 16.5 percent year-on-year.
The six medium-size banks, which command a market share of 31.8 percent, reported asset growth of 290.3 billion baht, or 25.6 percent above a year earlier.
The five small-sized banks recorded the highest sectoral growth, with assets increasing 28.9 percent to 76.4 billion baht.
