Thai Airways to install bulletproof
THAILAND: National carrier Thai Airways will install bulletproof
doors on cockpits of its jumbo jets to enhance flight security, a
senior official said on Friday.
By the end of April, electronic dead bolts would be fixed on
the doors on all its 16 Boeing 747-400 jetliners, Thai's
executive vice president, Udomchai Nandamanop, said. After April,
the airline will start replacing the doors with bulletproof doors
gradually, he said.
Other security tools including surveillance cameras and
special communications equipment linking the cockpit with the
passenger cabin would also be installed, he said. The entire
installation process is expected to be completed by April next
year, he told The Associated Press.
He said Thai Airways is consider installing bulletproof doors
on other aircraft also. He said the entire project would cost an
estimated US$3 million.--AP
