Executive Director of the Indonesian Textile Association (API), Danang Girindrawardana, stated that one key energy-saving initiative for the textile and textile products (TPT) industry involves innovating production machinery. This effort is essential amid the surge in global energy prices due to the Iran-United States conflict.

The association is prepared to collaborate with various countries possessing more energy-efficient machinery technologies. “Support for energy savings, alongside the roadmap for reducing fossil fuel use, must also be pursued through upgrading machinery technology, requiring significant efforts to strengthen international collaboration in the textile sector,” Danang said in a written statement on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.

One modernisation programme for production machinery is being implemented through cooperation with the non-profit textile organisation, India ITME Society. Danang noted that India’s textile machinery technology is quite advanced, aligning well with the interests of the domestic industry.

In the near future, API will meet with a delegation from the India ITME Society to discuss introductions to leading Indian companies in textile machinery and technology. The scope of the modernisation technologies discussed includes spinning, weaving, processing, dyestuff and chemicals, digital printing, technical textiles, and sportstech. Danang views this collaboration as an opportunity to explore potential enhancements in cooperation between Indonesia and India in the TPT sector.

API has requested government support for these steps to sustain millions of workers in Indonesia’s labour-intensive textile and garment industry. According to Danang, labour-intensive industries must be preserved to create as many jobs as possible, in line with efforts to reduce rising unemployment rates each year.

On one hand, the association supports the government’s measures to keep subsidised fuel oil (BBM) and biodiesel (biosolar) prices stable until the end of the year, as well as initiatives to save fuel consumption through adjusting work culture with one day of work from home per week. The association also expressed appreciation for the decision to raise flight ticket prices to adjust to the global surge in aviation turbine fuel (avtur) prices.
