Testing the Walkway to BNI City Station Ahead of Karet Station's 'Retirement' Tomorrow

Karet Station in Central Jakarta will ‘retire’, or stop serving KRL passengers, from tomorrow. KRL passengers travelling from or to Karet can use the walkway that has been prepared to reach Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station.

detikcom tested the pedestrian route that has been prepared for rail commuters from BNI City Station to Karet, or vice versa, on Monday (31/8/2026). Directional signage was already visible along the passenger exit route from BNI City Station.

In addition, electronic gate facilities, ticket counters, and a hall on the west side of BNI City Station are connected to the walkway. KRL users from BNI City Station will cover a distance of around 450 metres, with a walking time of approximately five minutes, if heading to Karet.

Part of the walkway is already equipped with a canopy. There are also trees that make the pedestrian route more shaded.

Previously, KAI Commuter announced that all operations at Karet Station would be transferred to Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station. The transfer begins on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.

“Fellow Commuters who previously boarded and alighted at Karet Station can use the walkway access beside Karet Station to reach BNI City Station. Electronic gate facilities, ticket counters, and a hall on the west side of BNI City Station are also available and integrated with access from the Karet entrance,” KAI Commuter wrote on its official X account.
