Testing the Comfort of Airport Rail Services Operated on the KRL Pink Line
The Soekarno-Hatta Airport Rail (Basoetta) fleet is currently being operated on the Tanjung Priok-Jakarta Kota electric train (KRL) route. Many passengers on the Pink Line have expressed their impressions of the Commuter Line Basoetta service.
As of Thursday, 10 September 2026, the Soetta Airport Rail has begun temporary operations on the Jakarta Kota-Tanjung Priok route. Observations show that KRL users appear enthusiastic about the presence of airport rail carriages operating on the Kota-Tanjung Priok line.
At 1:12 PM WIB, passengers were seen enjoying the seating facilities within the airport train. They appeared comfortable, able to sit back without the need to stand during the journey.
During the afternoon, several empty seats were observed. The seating arrangement in these airport rail carriages is unidirectional, facing either forward or backward, which differs from the standard KRL configuration where seats face the train doors.
The carriages feature overhead storage similar to standard KRL trains, though the design is flatter and more minimalist. Additionally, the airport trains are equipped with two extra-large cabin storage areas located next to the doors in every carriage.
Furthermore, the airport trains are equipped with toilets. The journey on the Soetta Airport Rail feels smoother due to minimal vibration, ensuring a comfortable ride.
“It just feels comfortable. It is different from other trains,” said a passenger named Fitri (37), who was travelling with her son.
Liu (17) expressed similar sentiments, noting that the experience of riding the Soetta Airport Rail is significantly different from the usual Commuter Line. “It is better than the previous trains,” he said.
Previously reported, the KRL service on the Priok-Kota route is receiving the Soetta Airport Rail as a substitute. Passengers on the Priok line can now experience executive-class facilities, which typically cost between Rp 10,000 and Rp 70,000.
However, KCI has ensured that services, fares, and schedules remain unchanged and will continue to be implemented as per standard KRL service protocols.
Many users of the Tanjung Priok-Jakarta Kota (Pink Line) have been sharing their experiences of travelling via the Soetta Airport Rail. Some are pleased with the interior facilities, while others have commented on the limited space within the carriages.
On the other hand, the Commuter Line Basoetta schedule has undergone temporary adjustments because the airport rail carriages have been diverted to the Pink Line.
“Starting Thursday, 10 September 2026, the service schedule for the Basoetta Commuter Line will decrease from 70 trips to 52 trips,” said Karina Amanda, VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter.
Meanwhile, the KRL service on the Bogor-Jakarta Kota route has received an increase of 13 trips today. The Bogor Line has gained additional trains diverted from the Tanjung Priok line.
“With the operation of these carriages, the number of Bogor Commuter Line trips will increase by 13,” said Karina.
KCI continues to evaluate the operational patterns of the Bogor Commuter Line following the service adjustments made on Monday, 7 September. KCI explained that this increase is the result of an evaluation regarding passenger density following the reduction of 17 trips on the Bogor Commuter Line.
