Testimony of PSI Deputy Chairman Bro Ron Assaulted in Menteng Until Bleeding
Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), Ronald Sinaga, known as Bro Ron, became a victim of an assault in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, on Monday (4/5). The incident was recorded in a video and uploaded by Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Ahmad Sahroni, via his Instagram account. Sahroni urged law enforcement to act firmly, stating that thuggery cannot be tolerated in any form. “Bro Ron was beaten during a mediation process at one of the law firms, because Bro Ron knew that law firm,” Sahroni said when contacted on Tuesday (5/5). Meanwhile, Ronald, alias Bro Ron, explained that the incident occurred while he was accompanying a colleague in an audience with the leadership of the firm Michael Putra and Partners (MPP) regarding allegations of embezzlement of funds from PT SKS worth Rp9 billion. According to Ronald, his colleague, an employee of the company, was demanding those funds from the MPP firm leader as the fund manager. “Salaries and company funds that disappeared without explanation. The company funds were managed by the MPP leader,” he said. Ronald stated that initially, his colleague along with several other employees held a protest at the MPP office. Then, around 6:00 PM WIB, three individuals claiming to be security asked them to leave the building. “There was an altercation between these three individuals, the SKS employees, and me as well. But in the end, these three individuals were pushed back by members of the Menteng Police Sector who were already present at the location,” he said. Not long after, he continued, the three security officers returned and got into another altercation. And, he added, the severe assault incident occurred, causing his head to bleed. “15 minutes later, these 3 individuals went back up to the 4th floor (location of MPP office), suddenly the altercation started again. About 10 seconds after they appeared from the stairs, the assault as in the video occurred,” he said. Menteng Metro Police Chief AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu stated that Ronald, as the victim, has filed a police report and has been taken for a medical examination. In addition, the victim and witnesses have been questioned. Arnold revealed that the two assault perpetrators have also been arrested. He said the two perpetrators are still being intensively examined. “Two suspected perpetrators have been secured at the police station for further processing,” Braiel told reporters. PSI Central Executive Board (DPP) Spokesperson Kamaruddin said his side condemns the action. He views physical violence as an attack on humanity that cannot be tolerated. “Violence against citizens cannot be tolerated in a rule of law state. The incident that befell Bro Ron is a real threat to the freedom and security of citizens. Never compromise with violence,” Kamaruddin said in his statement. Therefore, PSI demands that the police immediately thoroughly investigate this case and firmly punish the perpetrators. His side claims it will continue to monitor the case and ensure that justice is enforced fairly. “All those involved in this barbaric assault must be firmly punished without exception. We will continue to monitor this case and ensure that the law works as it should and provides a deterrent effect for the perpetrators,” he said. Meanwhile, as of this writing, CNNIndonesia.com has not received a statement from the relevant law firm where the assault took place.
