Testimony of Palembang Fire Victim Whose Home Was Renovated by South Sumatra Police

Palembang, VIVA - The tangible concern of the South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) in simultaneously renovating 40 homes of underprivileged residents ahead of Bhayangkara Day 2026 has garnered deep appreciation from the community. This gratitude peaked when the Kapolda Sumsel personally handed over the keys to a renovated home to a fire victim in the 13 Ulu Ward, Seberang Ulu II Subdistrict, Palembang, on Friday, 10 April 2026. Joy was evident on the face of Indra Irmawan (Iwan), the recipient of the home renovation assistance. In front of the police ranks and attending community members during the symbolic handover event, Iwan repeatedly expressed his thanks, as his residence is now once again a safe, healthy, and habitable dwelling. “I extend my thanks to the Kapolda Sumsel and all ranks who have helped renovate my home. I am very grateful for the assistance provided,” said Iwan emotionally. He also represented the residents in his neighbourhood to convey appreciation for the police’s quick response. “On behalf of the RT 18 residents, we thank the General and all ranks of the Kapolda as well as the Kapolrestabes regarding the fire disaster that befell my home. In short, we extend our utmost thanks,” he added. Iwan’s home is one of 40 units in the South Sumatra jurisdiction renovated by Polda Sumsel ranks. This social service activity targets residents with economic limitations, whose homes are uninhabitable due to the building’s age or disaster impacts. During the event, the police also distributed social assistance to the surrounding community. Kapolda Sumsel Irjen Sandi Nugroho, who directly led the activity, affirmed that this home renovation programme is a tangible manifestation of Polri’s presence amid society. It also implements the precise Polri concept that is humane and responsive. “Polri must not be distant from society. We must be present, feel, and help the difficulties faced by residents. This programme is not just about building homes, but also building better living hopes,” said Sandi.
