Testimony of Former Merak Fuel Terminal Owner Interviewed by Riza Chalid
Jakarta — Danny Subrata, director of PT Oiltanking Merak from 2006 to 2014, testified that he had met and been interviewed by oil businessman Mohamad Riza Chalid before his company was acquired by Muhamad Kerry Adrianto Riza.
Subrata made this statement whilst being examined as a witness in the continued trial of a crude oil governance corruption case involving PT Pertamina Persero, with defendants including Hanung Budya Yukyanta, director of marketing and commerce at PT Pertamina Persero from April 2012 to 2014, and Alfian Nasution, former vice president of supply and distribution at PT Pertamina (Persero).
“You mentioned that it was Pak Kerry who acquired the terminal. Did you yourself ever meet Mohamad Riza Chalid, Kerry’s father?” asked prosecutor Triyana Setia Putra at the Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court hearing on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
“I did meet him; I was introduced by Pak Kerry,” Subrata replied.
During the hearing, Subrata did not specify when the meeting took place, though he indicated it occurred before the acquisition of the Merak terminal, around 2013.
When questioned further by the prosecutor, Subrata stated that Riza Chalid had called him for a meeting.
Subrata said the meeting did not discuss business matters.
“There was no discussion about business at all, sir. It was more like an interview,” Subrata said.
“He asked about my background. Essentially, he wanted to know who I was,” Subrata explained.
The public prosecutor further questioned the process of acquiring the fuel terminal in Merak, which would eventually be owned by Kerry.
However, Subrata emphasised that the meeting did not involve discussion of business or acquisition plans. Riza Chalid did not explain the purpose or objectives behind the acquisition of the Merak terminal.
“In your understanding, when Pak Riza Chalid called you, what was his position in the context of the acquisition? Was he someone who would fund the acquisition, or something else—what was your understanding?” the prosecutor pressed.
Subrata stated that Riza Chalid simply introduced himself as Kerry’s father.
