Testimony from Former Google Executive on Jurist Tan Accompanying Nadiem

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Scott Beaumont, former President of Google Asia Pacific, testified about the figure of Jurist Tan, who previously served as Special Staff to the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim.

“In that meeting, I knew Minister Nadiem was there. Then, there was a very intelligent woman whom I perceived as the number two person. This woman was very strong, asking many very difficult questions,” said Scott when presented virtually at the trial in the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (20/4/2026).

Scott observed Jurist Tan accompanying the minister during the February 2020 meeting.

When pressed by the public prosecutor (JPU), Scott admitted he did not remember the name of the woman accompanying Nadiem.

The JPU then showed a photo of a woman with long black hair and wearing glasses. This woman was Jurist Tan.

Scott immediately recognised the woman, who was later identified as Jurist Tan.

“Yes, that’s her. That woman looks like the one I meant,” said Scott.

“I remember that person. She has broad knowledge and is very clever in her questions related to the presentation from the Google for Education team,” explained Scott.

Besides Jurist, Scott said he was impressed by one man who accompanied Nadiem in that meeting. However, Scott did not remember the name of the man in question.

“There was one man who was very knowledgeable about questions around technology, very strong when asking,” said Scott.

In the indictment, Nadiem is mentioned to have met several Google executives. Starting from Scott Beaumont when he was President of Google Asia Pacific and Colin Marson as Head of Google for Education, Google Asia Pacific.

Nadiem’s meetings with these technology company executives took place in 2020. At that time, the procurement of Information and Communication Technology (TIK) was still in the planning stage.
