Terrifying Moments as Strong Tremors Hit Port During NTT Earthquake

A magnitude 7 earthquake shook the waiting area of Laurentius Say Port in Maumere, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday (15/8). Footage recorded by local residents showed buildings collapsing due to the tremors, while a number of passengers on the pier were seen running to safety. A woman was reported dead and two other people sustained injuries after being struck by falling debris. Joint SAR teams have also been deployed to several affected areas to carry out evacuations and to record casualties and damage caused by the earthquake. Initially, the earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara also triggered a tsunami in several areas with heights ranging from 0.3 to nearly 1 metre, but the early tsunami warning has now been lifted.
