A woman suspected of being a victim of domestic violence by her own husband was seen defending herself on the balcony of an apartment in Pekayon, South Bekasi, Bekasi City. The victim was heard screaming for help while using a laundry basket to protect herself from the alleged assault.

The moment was captured in an amateur video that subsequently went viral on social media. In the circulating footage, the woman, wearing a grey headscarf, is seen standing on the apartment balcony. She appeared to be in a struggle with a man believed to be her husband. Her cries for help echoed and were heard by neighbours, who recorded the incident.

A man’s voice could be heard from behind the apartment door, faintly shouting abuse at the woman. Meanwhile, the woman was cornered on the balcony. Using a pink laundry basket in her left hand as a shield, she tried to protect herself from the man’s violence. At one point, the husband appeared to attempt to strike the victim with a wooden block, and the woman tried to fend off the attack with the basket while continuing to scream for help.

Police Rescue Victim

South Bekasi Police Chief Commissioner Suparmin confirmed that officers checked the location on Friday (24/7). Police rescued the woman from the apartment and took her to the Women and Children Protection Unit of the Bekasi City Metro Police to file a report.

Suparmin explained that his team initially received a report via the 110 emergency line regarding the alleged violence against the victim. Members of the South Bekasi Police then proceeded to the scene.

‘Because it involves a woman and the victim’s statement indicated that her own husband was the perpetrator of the violence, we escorted the victim to the Women and Children Protection Unit of the Bekasi City Metro Police,’ he clarified. According to Suparmin, the husband suspected of committing the domestic violence was also present in the apartment at the time. ‘The husband was there,’ he added.

Suparmin stated that his team had not yet obtained detailed information regarding the alleged violence experienced by the wife. ‘We did not ask in detail, because this concerns domestic violence, so we took her to the City Police for examination there,’ he explained.
