Terrifying! Aftershock in Sikka Triggers Landslide on Uje Ubi Hill, Evacuees Flee in Panic

An aftershock that shook the Palue area of Sikka, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), triggered a landslide on Uje Ubi Hill on Wednesday (19/8/2026) afternoon. Residents in evacuation tents panicked and ran to save themselves.

Viral video footage showed landslide material from Uje Ubi Hill. The landslide occurred after the earthquake struck at around 11.45 Wita.

Nestor Langga, a resident of Rokirole Village, said the landslide occurred on Uje Ubi Hill, which serves as the connecting access between Rokirole and Nitunglea villages.

According to Nestor, residents in the evacuation tents immediately panicked when the earthquake struck. A number of residents even ran intermittently out of fear.

“Panicked and occasionally ran in fear,” Nestor said when contacted by detikBali.

BMKG reported two consecutive earthquakes occurred this afternoon. The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 2.9, occurred at a depth of 13 kilometres in the Mbay Sea, Nagekeo, at 11.45 Wita.

The second earthquake occurred at 11.57 Wita with a magnitude of 4.3. The earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometres northeast of Ruteng-Manggarai.

Meanwhile, Felix Tampu, a resident of Elar, East Manggarai, recounted the earthquake that struck Rana Gapang Village on Saturday (15/8).

Felix said the first earthquake occurred at around 03.00 Wita. At that time, the earthquake’s strength was still small and residents were still fast asleep.

At around 05.30 Wita, residents were awakened after hearing the sound of a neighbour’s house wall collapsing.

“No one could see because of the dust from the building walls,” Felix said on Wednesday afternoon.

Felix said a number of buildings collapsed due to the earthquake. However, affected residents have reportedly not yet received any aid.

“To this day, not a single aid has arrived, even though data collection for victims by local village officials only began yesterday,” he concluded.
