Terrifying 3.5-Metre King Cobra Invades Tabanan Residential Area
Tabanan Reptile Asih team evacuated a king cobra in Banjar Suraberata, Lalanglinggah Village, Selemadeg District, Tabanan Regency, Bali, on Sunday (24 May). The large, long snake entered a residential area and was found in a resident’s banana plantation. The highly venomous male king cobra measured 3.5 metres in length.
Ni Putu Astridayanti, chairperson of Tabanan Reptile Asih, confirmed on Monday (25 May 2026) that the capture process was uneventful as the snake’s location was easily detectable. She explained that king cobras appearing near residential areas are typically searching for food.
“The king cobra breeding season is currently advancing. Last year it was in June, but now it has shifted to May,” Astridayanti said.
She added that two years ago, the snakes were more commonly found and bred in July. This phenomenon is due to unpredictable weather, including the ongoing intense rainy season in Tabanan.
The team urged residents not to attempt capturing venomous snakes on their own. If encountering dangerous wildlife, they should immediately report to village officials or authorised personnel.
“Do not act alone or recklessly without proper expertise,” she clarified.
Astridayanti stated that king cobras in Tabanan are predominantly found in the northern and western regions, including Bajera, Gadungan, Pupuan District, Baturiti, and Penebel, as well as eastern and central areas such as Kerambitan and Marga.
