Terra Drone Boss's Lawyers Say 1 Year and 4 Months' Sentence Is Burdensome
Jakarta — The legal team representing Michael Wisnu Wardhana Siagian, Chief Executive Officer of PT Terra Drone Indonesia, Stella M Masangi, said that the 1 year and 4 months prison sentence for their client felt quite burdensome.
The defence argued that Michael was not entirely negligent with regard to the fire at Terra Drone Indonesia’s office which killed 22 employees.
“For us, it feels quite (burdensome),” Stella told the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
Stella said the panel of judges had its own legal considerations and that they respected them.
Therefore, the defence accepted the 1 year and 4 months sentence pronounced by the panel on Thursday.
This includes consideration of whether to appeal or not against the decision of PN Jakarta Pusat.
“We will discuss with Mr. Michael first, then we will know what the next plan will be,” Stella added.
The verdict was read in the hearing at PN Jakarta Pusat, Kemayoran, on Thursday.
“According to the panel of judges, the defendant Michael Wisnu Wardhana Siagian is found to have acted unlawfully and negligently causing the death of others,” said the Chairman of the Panel, Purwanto S Abdullah, in the court.
“Thus the defendant is sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 1 year and 4 months,” he continued.
In addition, the panel ordered Michael Wisnu to remain in custody.
As information, this final verdict against Michael is lighter than the two-year prison sentence demanded by the prosecutors earlier.
According to the panel’s statements, Michael Wisnu has been detained at the Metro Jakarta Pusat Police since 12 December 2025.
The detention period will expire on 2 June 2026.
