Ternate Police and OJK Combat Scams Through Financial Literacy
Ternate — The Financial Services Authority (OJK) of North Maluku, together with Ternate Police, has strengthened coordination in combating scam crimes through enhanced financial literacy and education programmes.
“We are partnering with Ternate Police to prevent the rising tide of increasingly sophisticated digital fraud crimes, which requires improved understanding among law enforcement personnel of various digital financial crime modus operandi and scams, including illegal investment schemes, social media-based fraud, phishing, impersonation, and illegal online lending,” said Adi Surahmat, Head of OJK North Maluku, in Ternate, North Maluku, on Saturday.
According to him, the initiative aims to enhance financial literacy and vigilance against the growing prevalence of fraud and digital crime modus operandi. Ternate Police received an awareness campaign from OJK.
He noted that scam crimes today are increasingly sophisticated and target various segments of society, including law enforcement personnel themselves. Therefore, enhanced vigilance, improved financial literacy understanding, and the ability to identify fraud characteristics early are necessary to prevent financial losses and misuse of personal data.
The activity was conducted at Ternate Police headquarters and attended by senior officials, officers, and personnel of Ternate Police.
The awareness campaign aims to provide comprehensive education and understanding to personnel regarding various fraud methods operating within society, particularly digital-based fraud such as phishing, fake investment schemes, illegal online lending, and scams through social media and instant messaging applications.
Meanwhile, Inspector Police Two Sudirjo, Public Relations Chief of Ternate Police, stated that this awareness campaign represents a strategic step to strengthen personnel capacity in addressing increasingly complex cyber crime developments.
“Through this campaign, we hope all Ternate Police personnel can understand various forms of fraud and scam crimes that are prevalent, so they are not only able to protect themselves but can also provide education and guidance to the community,” he said.
Furthermore, he stressed that synergy between the national police and OJK is essential in preventing financial and digital crime. “We appreciate OJK’s awareness campaign as a positive collaboration in our joint efforts against fraud and scam crimes,” he said.
With enhanced literacy and vigilance, personnel are expected to serve as the front line in protecting the community from various forms of digital crime.
The activity proceeded in an orderly and interactive manner, marked by a question-and-answer session between personnel and speakers regarding handling and preventive measures against fraud modus operandi frequently occurring in Ternate Police’s jurisdiction.
“With the implementation of this activity, all Ternate Police personnel are expected to increase vigilance and actively participate in providing education to the community to jointly combat fraud and scam crimes, to achieve a secure and conducive security and order situation in Ternate,” he said.
