Ternate and Tidore launched a cultural program in Jakarta to promote spice heritage and sustainable tourism.
The event combines culinary experiences, investment forums, and cultural activities to attract visitors and investors.
RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A comprehensive cultural showcase titled Discover the Natural Treasures: Ternate & Tidore has launched in the capital, aiming to bridge the historical significance of the Spice Islands with modern investment and environmental conservation. Running from April 20 to May 31, 2026, at Hotel Borobudur Jakarta, the program coincides with Earth Day celebrations and the upcoming Vesak Day.
The initiative serves as a strategic platform for Maluku Utara (North Maluku) to promote its rich biodiversity and cultural heritage to a global audience, moving beyond traditional resource exploitation toward high-value sustainable tourism.
“Through this activity, we hope not only to increase tourist visits but also to attract investors to see the great potential possessed by Ternate and Tidore,” stated Ternate Mayor M. Tauhid Soleman in a statement released Friday, April 24, 2026, as quotd by Antara.
Echoing this sentiment, Tidore Deputy Mayor Ahmad Laiman emphasized the region’s commitment to ecological balance. He noted that Tidore’s vast forests and biodiversity offer a viable economic alternative to mining and heavy industry.
The program offers an immersive experience for visitors through several unique highlights. Guests can embark on an authentic culinary journey at Bogor Cafe, where daily buffet specials prepared by guest chefs from North Maluku showcase traditional spice-based dishes starting from IDR 498,000 (USD 29).
Beyond dining, the event features economic forums, such as the Business & Investment Forum held on April 24, which aims to connect regional leaders with potential stakeholders. Visitors can also engage in cultural dialogues during talk shows that explore the historical legacy of the Spice Routes and their spiritual connection to Borobudur Temple.
Finally, the program promotes environmental awareness through a special Mermaid & Merman Indonesia performance, a collaboration with the El John Indonesia Foundation that highlights marine conservation in honor of Earth Day.
Director of Marketing Communication at Hotel Borobudur, Karina Eva Poetry, noted that the program is part of a long-term commitment to supporting the creative economy through education and culture.
The festivities will culminate in the Pesta Rakyat Ternate & Tidore on May 24, followed by a spiritual transition toward Vesak Day. This final phase includes an infographic exhibition on the history of Borobudur Temple and a meditation session on June 7.
To accommodate visitors, a Borobudur Serenity Stay package is available from May 24 to June 7, offering yoga, meditation sessions, and guided access to the temple. This synergy between the local governments of Ternate and Tidore and the hospitality sector underscores a new era of integrated promotion for Indonesia’s eastern treasures. ***
