TEP to bolster local top commodities in transmigration areas: Ministry
“The mission of TEP 2026 is to follow up on the findings of the TEP 2025 research,” Mauladi said in a statement received here on Thursday.
He explained that transmigration areas produce a wide range of valuable commodities, including durian, coffee, cocoa, palm oil, and other agricultural and plantation products.
However, he said these commodities still require stronger and more comprehensive management, covering the entire value chain from cultivation and maintenance to production, post-harvest processing, and market access.
“It is important to encourage innovation and creativity in these areas,” he said.
According to Mauladi, an integrated value chain can increase productivity, add value to commodities, and improve the incomes of communities in transmigration areas.
The Ministry of Transmigration noted that several commodities produced in transmigration areas have already entered export markets, including cocoa beans from Polewali Mandar District exported to Yokohama, Japan, and durian from Parigi Moutong District exported to China.
Research conducted by the Patriot Expedition Team projected that integrated area development could generate an additional Rp85 trillion to Rp120 trillion (approximately US$5.2 billion to US$7.4 billion) in annual export value and increase regional economic productivity by between Rp320 trillion and Rp410 trillion per year.
In the Lembantongoa Transmigration Area in Sigi District, Central Sulawesi, coffee production averages around 200 kilograms per month and is sold at approximately Rp65,000 per kilogram. During the peak harvest season, monthly production can reach 300 kilograms.
Demand for downstream products from the area currently includes one ton of roasted robusta coffee and 200 kilograms of Arabica coffee. The ministry estimates that demand could increase to two tons per month within the next one to two years.
A total of 1,476 participants, including professors and graduates holding doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees, will be deployed to 53 transmigration areas across Indonesia.
Mauladi expressed hope that the Patriot Expedition Team would help stimulate economic, social, and cultural activities while improving the quality of human resources in the targeted areas.
