Tensions Rise at Hotel Sultan as Supporters Rally Against Eviction Execution
The former Hotel Sultan land in Block 15 of the Gelora Bung Karno complex is set to be evicted today. A crowd gathered to reject the execution.
According to monitoring at the location on Thursday (18/6/2026) at 08:00 WIB, the crowd assembled in front of the Hotel Sultan lobby. They chanted for the court not to evict Hotel Sultan.
The crowd repeatedly shouted the rallying cry ‘Indigenous people unite, defend Hotel Sultan!’. The demonstrators were seen wearing accessories such as red and white flag bracelets. They were led by an orator in front of a command vehicle.
Several banners were also unfurled at the site. Some were placed on room balconies, while others were installed in front of the hotel. The banners bore messages including ‘Reject the eviction or seizure of indigenous entrepreneurs’ businesses’, ‘Hotel Sultan eviction violates human rights’, and ‘Hotel Sultan is not a GBK asset’.
Meanwhile, security officers from the police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) were present at the location. They stood guard while occasionally marching back and forth in formation.
A number of areas within the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex were temporarily closed. Several roads were blocked, including access from Gate 5, Gate 7, and Gate 8. Gate 10 on Jalan Gerbang Pemuda was partially closed. Security officers at Gate 10 did not permit any vehicles to enter.
It was previously reported that today is the deadline for PT Indobuildco to vacate Block 15 of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), the former Hotel Sultan area. The Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK) will deploy 300 joint personnel to execute the eviction of the area.
PPKGBK had previously prepared for the execution of the Block 15 GBK eviction. A series of strategies have been readied to clear the execution object, ranging from personnel briefings to the execution mechanism.
Head of the Block 15 GBK Transition Team, Hendry Arisandi, stated on Monday (15/6) that PPKGBK has prepared a mechanism should items belonging to PT Indobuildco still be found in the Block 15 GBK area during the execution. Items belonging to PT Indobuildco will be recorded, documented, relocated, and stored neatly.
‘Our principle is clear, this execution is the implementation of a court order. However, at the same time, we continue to safeguard the rights to the property of the previous manager. Indobuildco is given up to six months to retrieve their items, which will be properly stored and recorded by PPKGBK,’ said Hendry at the GBK Senayan Complex, Jakarta, as quoted from a written statement by PPKGBK on Tuesday (16/6).
