Tensions Escalate: US Forces Fire on Tanker Attempting to Breach Iran Blockade

The United States military has fired upon and disabled a tanker in the Gulf of Oman after it attempted to evade a blockade of Iranian ports. Captain Tim Hawkins, a US Navy spokesperson for Central Command, stated that forces engaged the vessel after it tried to breach the blockade at least four times. “We disabled the tanker after the crew attempted to run the blockade,” Hawkins said. “The crew had been repeatedly warned but did not comply, and US forces on the scene disabled the vessel by firing into its engine room.” The vessel, identified as the Comoros-flagged tanker M/T Lavine, is no longer in transit to Iran. This marks the second commercial vessel disabled since the US military imposed the blockade.

Meanwhile, the conflict between the US and Iran shows no signs of abating after thirteen consecutive nights of strikes. President Donald Trump met with national security aides on Friday to discuss the situation, though it remains unclear whether any decisions were made. The US Embassy has begun warning American citizens in the Middle East that options for departure may become more limited. In response, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi vowed that the nation would not surrender to intimidation or yield to American pressure.
