Tensions Escalate: Kuwait Intercepts Iranian Missile and Drone Attacks
The Kuwaiti military announced that its forces intercepted missile and drone attacks launched from Iranian territory on Thursday (3/9) local time. This interception occurred as Tehran targeted United States (US) allies in the Middle East region in retaliation for recent attacks on its territory.
Iran targeted US bases in Kuwait, Jordan, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, and Erbil, in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, following massive bombings by Washington on Tuesday (1/9) against various locations throughout Iran.
“Kuwait’s air defences are currently facing enemy missile and drone attacks, following Iran’s heinous aggression,” stated the Kuwaiti military via the social media platform X, as reported by AFP on Thursday (3/9/2026).
Separately, Iranian state television confirmed that Tehran targeted US bases in Kuwait to “respond to American crimes against the Iranian people.”
Iran reacted with fury after a series of US strikes caused fatalities, including civilians within its borders. Recent reports from Iranian state media indicate that at least 19 people were killed in the wave of US attacks across several provinces in the country.
One of the US strikes hit a wedding ceremony in Sirik, southern Iran. The Mehr news agency reported that at least four people were killed and 68 others were injured in the attack.
The victims included a four-year-old child, a teenager, and two women.
The US has not directly responded to Iranian reports regarding civilian casualties. However, US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesperson Tim Hawkins asserted that “the US military never targets civilians, unlike the IRGC”—referring to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who also serves as Tehran’s primary negotiator, referred to the US as “the devil” for attacking the wedding in Sirik.
“If a power acts like a devil, chooses targets like a devil, and kills like a devil, then it is a devil,” Ghalibaf condemned in a statement via social media X.
