Tense Situation in Dogiyai Leads to Removal of Kompol Y Mince Mayor as Police Chief
The position of Dogiyai Police Chief has been rotated, as outlined in the Central Papua Police Chief’s Order Letter Number Sprin/295/IV/KEP./2026.
The Central Papua Regional Police stated that this is an effort to maintain regional conduciveness amid the security dynamics occurring in the area.
The Head of Public Relations of the Central Papua Regional Police, Assistant Commissioner I Made Suartika, revealed that the replacement is part of an organisational evaluation to improve performance and public services.
“This replacement is carried out as a form of organisational evaluation, as well as to meet public expectations so that the security and order situation in Dogiyai Regency can run more optimally,” he said on Thursday, 9 April 2026.
The previous Dogiyai Police Chief position, held by Police Commissioner Y Mince Mayor, is now taken over by Assistant Commissioner Denis A. Putra as Acting Dogiyai Police Chief.
AKBP Denis previously served as Head of Subdirectorate 3 of the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Central Papua Regional Police. He is expected to carry out his duties and address various field challenges, especially in maintaining security stability in the Dogiyai area.
Regarding information about civilian casualties due to the conflict in Dogiyai, Suartika said that to date, it is still being investigated by the National Police’s General Supervision Inspectorate (Itwasum) along with a team from the Central Papua Regional Police to ensure the accuracy of the data.
“We are still conducting investigations and in-depth probes regarding the circulating information about victims,” he stated.
His side asked the public to remain calm, not to be easily influenced by unverified information, and to support police steps in maintaining security and order.
“Public support is very important so that the security and public order situation in Dogiyai Regency remains safe and conducive,” he added.
It is known that the security situation in Dogiyai Regency was reported to have heated up since 31 March 2026. This was triggered by the death of a member of the Dogiyai Police Resort with initials JE (24) in Kimupugi Village, Kamuu District.
The victim was found dead with wounds from a sharp object on the neck to the back of the head and wounds on the right hand finger. The incident is suspected to have triggered a broader conflict between the community and police apparatus in the area.
