Tense Passenger Moments During Duri-Tangerang Commuter Train Breakdown: Darkness and AC Failure
29-year-old Lidiah stated that the train initially broke down around 5:05 PM WIB on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. She was in the women’s carriage near the driver’s compartment.
‘Before the complete stop, there were three loud explosions, possibly an electrical short circuit or something,’ Lidiah told detikcom.
She noted that the carriage was dark and the air conditioning had failed. Some passengers attempted to exit through the windows.
She also recounted that many passengers had to break their fast during the breakdown. ‘When the train stalled, the carriage went dark and the AC stopped, causing panic due to the cramped conditions. People tried opening the windows, and many in the women’s carriage were fasting, so we shared food and drinks to break the fast,’ she said.
Lidiah then received information that the train would be coupled with another KRL unit around 6:57 PM WIB, and all passengers were eventually disembarked at Bojong Indah Station.
‘As my carriage is right behind the driver’s compartment, we received clearer updates. We were told the train would be pushed by another unit and could reach certain stations,’ she explained.
‘The cause was not disclosed, and all passengers were disembarked at Bojong Indah Station,’ she added.
It is known that the Duri-Tangerang commuter train service experienced a disruption in the afternoon on the upstream track between Duri and Rawabuaya stations. KAI Commuter issued an apology for the service disruption.
‘KAI Commuter apologises for the service disruption on Commuter Line No. 1978A between Duri and Tangerang, which occurred at 5:05 PM WIB on Tuesday, 26 May, on the upstream track between Duri and Rawabuaya stations,’ said KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan in a statement on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
Leza explained that officials responded to the report. The disruption affected the Overhead Line Equipment (OLE), which had to be de-energised, making the Duri-Rawabuaya upstream track impassable.
‘Upon receiving the report, relevant officials immediately coordinated and managed the situation on-site to ensure travel safety and accelerate the restoration of commuter line operations,’ Leza said.
He added that the overhead line power was restored at 5:56 PM WIB. Commuter Line No. 1978A was coupled with No. 1980A and moved to Track 3 at Rawabuaya Station for further checks.
