Tense Moment as Car Driving in the Wrong Direction Collides with Several Vehicles While Being Chased by Residents in Gunung Sahari

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A black Toyota Calya was driving in the wrong direction and was being chased by a mob on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/2/2026) afternoon. The car sped recklessly and collided with several vehicles while being surrounded by the mob. According to a video uploaded to the Instagram account @lintasjakartaupdate, the car, driven by a driver with the initials HM (25), was driving at high speed in the wrong direction on the busy road. A red scooter was pushed to the side after being hit by the car. The car then drove towards a dozen other cars that were stuck in traffic. At that time, residents were running after the car, shouting and throwing helmets. Cornered by the pursuing residents and hampered by traffic from the opposite direction, the Toyota Calya could not go much further. The driver then appeared to reverse the car and instead hit a white scooter. As a result, the scooter fell over. At that time, police officers were seen running towards the car. Then, a police car arrived right behind the Toyota Calya to block the car’s path from the rear. The driver was still trying to move the car, while the mob had damaged the rear window by throwing helmets. Finally, residents surrounded the car until it could no longer move.
