Tense Afternoon on Gunung Sahari: Car Driving Against Traffic Collides with Vehicles and is Attacked by a Mob

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A black Toyota Calya drove against the flow of traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/2/2026), eventually being attacked by a mob.

Based on a video uploaded to the Instagram account @lintasjakartaupdate, the car was seen speeding while driving against the traffic in the middle of heavy traffic.

While driving, the vehicle grazed several cars and motorcycles before finally stopping after being pursued by citizens and police officers.

Reynold explained that initially, police officers attempted to stop the vehicle at around 5:00 PM.

“The car with license plate number D-1640-AHB is suspected of using a fake license plate, so it was stopped by two traffic police officers,” Reynold told reporters at the Tanah Abang Police Station on Wednesday evening.

However, HM panicked and fled. He entered Jalan Gunung Sahari and drove against the traffic from south to north on Jalan Bungur Besar.

At the Bungur intersection, the car turned left, continuing to drive against the traffic towards the west. Upon arriving at the Menara Bidakara Alfa Land (MBAL) intersection, the car continued to drive against the traffic on Jalan Pos.

Next, the vehicle turned around and returned to the MBAL intersection, then turned left again in the opposite lane on Jalan Gunung Sahari.

Reynold explained that before the accident occurred, the car was initially driving from north to south on Jalan Gunung Sahari, Sawah Besar. When it was near the Lapangan Banteng bus stop and officers attempted to stop it, the driver continued to drive south.

The car then turned left onto Jalan Gunung Sahari IV and drove to Jalan Bungur Besar Raya heading north to Jalan Gunung Sahari V.

The vehicle turned left again and drove against the traffic on Jalan Gunung Sahari V heading east to the MBAL traffic light intersection. The car continued to drive east on Jalan Dr. Sutomo.

“Upon arriving near the Bintang Baru Hotel, the vehicle turned around heading west until it returned to the MBAL traffic light intersection. Then it turned left onto Jalan Gunung Sahari heading north,” said Reynold.

The car then arrived at the Pintu Besi traffic light intersection, turned around driving against the traffic heading south, until it finally stopped near the Golden Truly busway stop.
