Tendean Pedestrian Bridge Demolition Targeted for Completion Tonight

The demolition of a pedestrian bridge on Jalan Kapten Tendean in South Jakarta, which nearly collapsed after being hit by a heavy equipment transporter, is still in progress. The dismantling work is currently focused on the side of the road heading from Pancoran towards Blok M. As of 9.15 pm Western Indonesian Time on Tuesday, only the staircase that previously provided access to the bridge remained, and it has since been knocked down. The demolition has forced the closure of the road from Jalan Kapten Tendean towards Jalan Wolter Monginsidi or Blok M. The remaining staircase sections are being cut into pieces and loaded onto trucks. While the route from Pancoran towards Blok M remains closed, the opposite direction from Blok M towards Tendean has been reopened, with traffic flowing smoothly. Head of the South Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency, Bernad Octavianus Pasaribu, stated that the demolition is targeted for completion tonight. He noted that the presence of onlookers and heavy equipment at the site makes it difficult to give an exact time, but the work must be finished by tonight. The bridge was rendered unusable after a truck carrying heavy equipment failed to clear its height and struck the structure in the early hours of the day. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government began the demolition process at 10.50 am Western Indonesian Time, resulting in temporary road closures and traffic diversions.
