Tendean Footbridge Demolished, 30 Transport Officers Deployed to Ease Congestion

The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) has deployed 30 personnel to manage traffic congestion after a crane-carrying truck struck the pedestrian footbridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, in the early hours of Tuesday. The swift action was taken to ease traffic flow ahead of the planned total demolition of the JPO, which was severely damaged by the impact. Head of the South Jakarta Transportation Sub-agency, Bernad Octavianus Pasaribu, stated that personnel were stationed at four strategic points: the incident location, the Mampang underpass, the Mampang flyover, and the Pasar Santa traffic light, to manage vehicle flow during the evacuation and demolition process. “Dishub has mitigated four traffic control points, namely at the Mampang descent, the Mampang flyover, the incident location, and the Pasar Santa traffic light. Traffic engineering will be implemented when heavy vehicles begin the evacuation and demolition of the JPO,” Bernad said on Tuesday. He noted that traffic from Mampang towards Blok M had experienced slowdowns. Dishub is also continuously coordinating with the Bina Marga Agency and the South Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit to ensure the handling process is safe and does not cause more severe congestion. Meanwhile, Head of the South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency, Rifki Rismal, explained that the assessment results showed the bridge’s pillar foundations suffered severe damage from the truck collision, making demolition a necessary step for the safety of road users. “The demolition will be carried out after the morning rush hour ends, with traffic management coordinated with the Transportation Agency and the Police,” he said. South Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Head, Kompol Mujiyanto, confirmed there were no fatalities in the incident. During the evacuation and demolition process, police will implement traffic diversions to maintain smooth vehicle flow. “There were zero fatalities in the incident. During the evacuation and demolition process, traffic diversions will be implemented to ensure the handling proceeds safely,” he said. The Jakarta Transportation Agency urged the public to temporarily avoid Jalan Kapten Tendean and use alternative routes via Jalan HR Rasuna Said, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Kemang Raya, or Jalan Antasari until the JPO demolition is complete.
