Tencent Interested in Supporting Indonesia's Free Nutritious Meals Programme Using AI Technology

Chinese technology giant Tencent is reportedly set to assist the Indonesian government’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. The statement was made by China’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Wang Lutong, who indicated potential cooperation between China and Indonesia in supporting the programme’s implementation. Wang stated that support from China could involve utilising technology developed by Chinese tech firms for food distribution in schools. He added that Tencent is currently preparing support for the free meal programme. “So I understand that some Chinese businesses are also supporting this free meal programme in whatever way they can,” he told reporters after attending the FPCI China-Indonesia Think Tank and Media Forum in Kuningan, Jakarta. Wang explained that Tencent is developing technology to automatically record the number of students attending school each day. This data can then be forwarded to the free meal kitchens, allowing them to accurately provide food according to the number of students present. “So the schools and the communal kitchens will know how many people come to school. They will then send free meals according to the number of students who attend,” he said. Wang expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries involving technology companies would ensure the MBG programme runs smoothly. “So we hope this (MBG) will run well,” he concluded.
