Tenaga to open bids for new power plant
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian power utility Tenaga Nasional Bhd. plans
to call for bids to construct a 150-megawatt power plant in
eastern Sabah state estimated to cost one billion ringgit (US$263
million), a report said on Sunday.
The Edge financial newspaper said the power plant would
increase the utility's capacity to 300 megawatts.
The planned open tender for the Sabah power plant would be a
significant departure from past practices when the government
issued licenses to influential individuals to build power plants
and supply power to Tenaga, it said.
Industry players said the tender was already attracting local
and foreign players, the newspaper reported. -- AFP
