Ten Workers Evacuated from Building Fire in Cikini

Firefighters evacuated ten workers who were trapped on the rooftop of a building engulfed in flames in Cikini, Menteng, Central Jakarta. All the workers were rescued unharmed. “When we arrived, there were several people we had to evacuate. Around 10 people. The evacuation was carried out manually,” said Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service officer Subady at the scene on Wednesday. He stated that the workers were evacuated from various floors. According to preliminary data, there were no fatalities or injuries resulting from the fire. “The workers were evacuated from various points because they were still working. Thank God, the latest information is that there were no casualties among the workers or our personnel,” he said. The fire has since been extinguished, but firefighters continue to spray water to ensure the flames are completely out and to prevent any reignition. Firefighters also deployed a hydraulic ladder truck (bronto skylift) to reach the fire at height. “The Bronto unit was used for the firefighting process, as there was a fire on the 3rd floor,” he said. The fire was reported by a resident via telephone to the fire department at 2:45 PM Western Indonesia Time. The affected building is located on Jalan Cikini Raya, Cikini Village, Menteng District. Based on observations at 4:00 PM Western Indonesia Time, several people were seen on the roof of the burning building. They were believed to be trying to avoid the flames and billowing smoke from the fire. They were seen looking for a way out of the location, wearing helmets and work uniforms. The workers at the scene remained calm while waiting for assistance. About 20 minutes later, the workers who had been trapped were no longer visible. The fire department deployed 22 fire engines and 105 personnel to the scene. The chronology and cause of the fire are not yet known.
