Ten undocumented cars seized in Bandung

BANDUNG: Ten out of 72 suspected undocumented luxury cars were seized in an operation conducted by the Bandung police over the last month.

"The police will continue to seek out all luxury cars that lack the required documents. The cars, all well known makes like Mercedez Benz and Toyota Land Cruiser, will be held until their owners resolve their cases in court," West Java Provincial Police chief Insp. Gen. Sudirman Ail said here on Thursday.

He added that the police had detected the presence of another 62 luxury cars that were believed to have been illegally imported.

Adj. Sr. Comr. Zakaria, chief of the Pandeglang police precinct and Adj. Sr. Comr. Abdurrahim, chief of the Lebak police precinct, have been suspended for their alleged involvement in the illegal importation of several of the undocumented cars into Banten.

Banten, which was established as a new province two years ago, is still under the jurisdiction of the West Java Provincial Police.

Besides the two Police officials, three businesspeople have been also been detained for their alleged involvement in the case. --Antara
