Ten Students Caught Loitering During School Hours Taken to Police Station
Ten male students were taken into custody by the Widasari police in Indramayu Regency after they were found loitering at a food stall during school hours. The students were discovered relaxing at a stall in Bangkaloa Ilir Village, Widasari District, during learning time on Thursday (23/7). They were subsequently brought to the Widasari police station for identity recording. The operation stemmed from a report by residents who were disturbed and felt their peace was disrupted by a group of students hanging around a stall while school was in session. The public complaint was responded to by on-duty officers from Widasari police, who immediately visited the students’ hangout location on Thursday (23/7) at around 9.40 a.m. Western Indonesia Time. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found ten students who should have been participating in the teaching and learning process at school instead at the stall. The ten students were then documented. “We also secured a number of items found at the location,” said Widasari Police Chief AK Suprapto. The evidence included Rp45,000 in cash, ten packs of playing cards, two packets of kratom powder, five glasses of Panther brand drink, six motorcycles belonging to the students, and eight mobile phones. Suprapto explained that the action taken by his members reflected their concern to prevent potential juvenile delinquency at an early stage. “We prioritise an educational approach and guidance in handling these teenagers by involving schools and parents,” he added. The aim is for the students to realise the importance of discipline and gaining knowledge at school and to avoid deviant activities that could lead to legal violations. Suprapto added that supervision of school-age children is not a one-sided task, but a shared responsibility between families, educational institutions, the community, and the police. “This strong synergy is crucial to fortify the younger generation from negative influences,” he stressed.
