The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) apprehended a total of 18 individuals in a case involving alleged corruption in the processing of permits for foreign nationals (WNA) to reside in Indonesia.

Of the 18 individuals detained, eight have been designated as suspects. The remaining ten individuals have now been released.

“The other ten individuals are currently considered witnesses and have therefore been released,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Thursday (June 4).

Of the eight individuals designated as suspects, one is the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas), Silmy Karim.

In addition to Silmy, the KPK has also detained the former Acting Director General of Immigration for the 2024-2025 period, Saffar Muhammad Godam (SMG), and the Head of the Regional Office (Kakanwil) of the Directorate General of Immigration for West Java, Jaya Saputra (JS).

Also detained were the Head of the Sub-Directorate for the Transfer of Residence Permits at the Directorate General of Immigration, Tessar Bayu Setyaji (TBS); the Head of the Sub-Directorate at the Directorate of Residence Permits, Bagus Bramantyo (BGS); the Head of the Class I Special Non-TPI Immigration Office in West Jakarta for 2025-2026, Ronald Arman Abdullah (RAA).

Furthermore, the Head of the ITAS Transfer Team, Juniadi Sri Priambudi (JSP), and Staff of the Sub-Directorate of Residence Permits, Gusti Benardiansyah (GST), were also detained.

“The eight suspects will be detained for the first 20 days,” said Budi.

In this case, the suspects are charged under Article 12e related to alleged corruption involving extortion in the processing of immigration documents, and Article 12B related to the acceptance of other benefits or gratuities.

Budi has not yet provided further details regarding the specifics of this case. He stated that the details of the case, including the command structure and the flow of funds to the suspects, will be disclosed during a press conference.

“We will provide details during the press conference, including how the case unfolded, the command structure, and the flow of funds to the suspects,” he said.

Previously, the KPK conducted a sting operation in West Jakarta on June 2-3, 2026. A total of dozens of people were arrested during the operation. The KPK seized at least four cars, nine motorcycles, and seven bicycles during the operation.

In addition, the KPK also seized foreign currency, namely Singapore dollars and US dollars, as well as gold bullion, during the operation.

The KPK revealed that the alleged criminal act committed by Silmy Karim occurred while he was serving as Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (HAM) for the period 2023-2024.

Silmy was appointed as Director General of Immigration on January 4, 2023, and his term ended on October 21, 2024, coinciding with his appointment as Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections.
