Ten people killed during festive celebrations
JAKARTA (JP): Ten people were killed in various accidents
during the two-day Idul Fitri celebrations, the Cipto
Mangunkusumo general hospital reported yesterday.
The most serious incident involved Iwan Supandi, 19, and
Restu Wibowo, 26, residents of Bukit Indah, Ciputat, Tangerang,
who died after drinking alcohol mixed with potassium cyanide.
Iwan, Restu and their friend drank the liquor on Tuesday after
the Idul Fitri prayer.
They mixed the liquor with potassium cyanide to make them more
drunk, a hospital spokesman quoted one of the victim's neighbor
as saying.
Another neighbor told The Jakarta Post the victims had
poisoned their neighbor's dog with potassium and used the
poisoned glass for their liquor.
The third person, who survived the poison, is now being
treated at the Fatmawati hospital, South Jakarta.
Eddy said other accidents in separate places during the two-
day celebration of Idul Fitri had killed eight people.
Sumini, 40, a resident of Kampung Krukut, Pangkalan Jati Baru,
Bogor, went to say Idul Fitri prayers with her husband by
motorcycle on Tuesday. She fell off when she tried to open an
umbrella as a strong wind blew. She died in hospital after
sustaining serious head injuries.
The other traffic victims were Ikbal, Yusmarih, Buang, Efendi,
Elias, Sarmin and Hengki. There is no detailed information on
them.
Sulisno, 50, was found dead yesterday in area near the North
Jakarta railway station early yesterday. Witnesses said he had
visited the nearby prostitution complex area.
The hospital also received a skeleton, believed to be of a 13-
year-old boy, which was found by the residents of Duren Sawit,
East Jakarta, yesterday.
According to Bambang Purwanto, a forensic expert at the
hospital, the skeleton, some ribs of which are missing, was
buried last month. It has yet to be identified.
Bambang declined to reveal the possible causes which led to
the death of the boy. (04)
