Ten killed in accident

PEKANBARU, Riau: Ten people were killed and 13 others were
injured after a passenger bus collided with a truck here Sunday,
Antara reported yesterday.

The accident happened in the afternoon when the Sarana Ekspres
bus, reportedly traveling at very high speed, slammed into the
truck in Kampar district.

The bus was en route from Pelabuhan Buton to Pekanbaru, the
provincial capital of Riau province. Police are investigating the
cause of the accident.

Republika daily quoted Milus, 52, a bus passenger who survived
the accident with only minor injuries, saying that the bus had
neither been overloaded nor speeding. But the Fuso truck had
appeared suddenly, speeding, from the opposite direction.

Five died at the accident site, the other five died in the
hospital. The bus driver, Syahrul, was among those who died on
the site.

Police are investigating the accident. (swe)
