Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Indonesian government will operationalise several additional toll road segments during the 2026 Eid holiday exodus period to anticipate the surge in inter-city vehicle traffic. This measure is designed to increase road network capacity and reduce congestion on major corridors.

“During the 2026 Eid departure and return period, we will operationalise approximately ten additional toll road segments with a combined length of around 291 kilometres,” said Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo during a working session with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

The applicable functional toll tariff is free of charge during transit.

Utilising additional toll roads is one of the traffic distribution strategies during the exodus period. In addition to opening new segments, the government is also expanding service facilities for travellers undertaking long-distance journeys.

“We will also operationalise approximately 15 rest and service areas on nine toll road segments,” said Dody.

The expansion of these facilities is expected to reduce congestion at rest areas, which have historically become bottleneck points during the exodus period.

Additionally, the government is offering incentive toll discounts to encourage better temporal distribution of public travel.

“We have set an average 30 per cent toll discount on 29 toll road segments during specific periods of the departure and return flows,” said Dody.

The discount resulted from coordination among various agencies involved in traffic management during the exodus.

“This policy is expected to help relieve traffic congestion and encourage more even distribution of public travel,” Dody explained.

Beyond increasing road capacity, the government is also ensuring that all toll networks are in serviceable condition before the exodus flow begins.

“Currently, there are 76 operational toll road segments totalling approximately 3,115 kilometres that serve as the backbone of inter-city mobility,” said Dody.

With these various measures, the government hopes the 2026 Eid exodus will run more smoothly than in previous years.

“We hope that public travel during the exodus can proceed safely and comfortably until they return to their original cities,” he concluded.
