Tempo has won an award at the Digital Media Awards Asia 2026. Tempo’s fact-checking newsgame “Detektif Deepfake” has entered the Best in Countering Disinformation category. In that category, Tempo secured the Silver ranking.

The event, organised by the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), took place in Manila on Tuesday, 28 April 2026. Tempo’s Company Secretary Jajang Jamaludin travelled to the Philippine capital to receive the award. “Detektif Deepfake, the Tempo Fact-Check programme, received the Silver award at the event in the Manila Hotel,” Jajang said via a short message.

“Detektif Deepfake” is a newsgame developed by the Tempo Fact-Check Team in 2025. The programme uses a game format to teach users how to identify disinformation resulting from artificial intelligence manipulation or AI.

Inge Klara Safitri, a Tempo Fact-Checker, said “Detektif Deepfake” is a news game featured on the Tempo Interaktif page. “This programme was developed by Tempo Fact-Check and Tempo Media Lab,” said Inge.

In this newsgame, users guess whether a video is the result of AI manipulation or not. The programme then provides information on simple ways to identify deepfake video characteristics through multiple-choice questions.

Inge stated that the interactive game is one of Tempo’s efforts to campaign against disinformation. According to her, nowadays almost anyone can create disinformation content using increasingly accessible AI devices. Therefore, the public needs skills to differentiate genuine content from manipulated results.

Through the game format, Tempo hopes that the ability to identify it can be taught more easily to users. “This can serve as an illustration that creating hoax content using deepfakes is now very easy, but we can also mitigate it,” she said.

To date, Inge conveyed that Tempo is still using newsgames like “Detektif Deepfake” in various fact-checking classes. The programme can also be used openly by the public who wish to utilise it as teaching material to combat disinformation.

Tempo Fact-Check’s newsgame “Detektif Deepfake” can be accessed on this website. Besides “Detektif Deepfake,” Tempo also has another newsgame themed around identifying phishing practices to online scams. That interactive game is “Anti Jebakan Batman,” which can be played on this page.
