The owner of a collapsed wall has built a temporary fence at SMPN 182 Jakarta in Kalibata, Pancoran, South Jakarta. The barrier was erected to ensure the safety of students and teachers following the collapse of a resident’s wall the previous week.

“A temporary fence has been put up for the safety of the children and those carrying out the repair work,” said Narwan, the acting headmaster of SMPN 182 Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Monday (23/2/2026).

He said the construction of the fence was proceeding well, from the clearing of debris to the demolition of the remaining sections of the wall by its owner. In addition, the embankment along the river between SMPN 182 and a neighbouring beauty clinic is being repaired.

“Thank God, as of today, everything we had hoped for is progressing well, starting from the clearing of debris and so on,” Narwan said.

He added that students and teachers have been asked not to feel anxious about entering the school grounds. The mediation process with the beauty clinic is also running smoothly, with an agreement in place to restore assets to their original condition.

“Today, the children returned after a one-week break, and everything went smoothly. Access to the school is unhindered, and there are no issues in the classrooms,” Narwan said.

Beyond the wall, a garden, a duty room and washbasins will also be provided in the school area. However, SMPN 182 Jakarta could not confirm a completion date for the construction, given weather conditions and other factors.

“What matters is that there is a commitment — that in itself is a positive thing,” Narwan said.

Infrastructure repairs at SMPN 182 were targeted for completion today, following the impact of a boundary wall that collapsed beside the school on Sunday (15/2).

The wall collapsed into the SMPN 182 area on Sunday (15/2) afternoon. The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) said the collapse was caused by unstable soil conditions.

“Because the soil structure is unstable — it is landfill — it caused the wall to collapse,” said Isnawa Adji, head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial BPBD, as reported by Antara on Monday (16/2).

The incident caused drainage blockages, though authorities confirmed there were no fatalities or injuries. Losses resulting from the incident are still being assessed.
