Temporary Level Crossing Gates Installed at Bekasi Timur Station
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 1 Jakarta has installed temporary level crossing gates at the JPL 86 crossing located on Jalan Ampera, near Bekasi Timur Station, to improve the safety of train journeys and road users.
“We would like to inform that what has been installed currently is a temporary gate, not an official level crossing gate. This is part of the initial stage of safety enhancement,” said Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, in Jakarta on Friday.
He stated that the temporary gate can be guarded through community self-help efforts in the local area, coordinated with the sub-district office.
In the event of no guarding, the gate must be in the closed position as a safety measure for the train journeys and the public using the road.
Franoto emphasised that the guarding aspect is a crucial factor in the operation of the level crossing.
“Because the unguarded condition is very dangerous for train journeys and the public,” Franoto stressed.
The installation of the temporary gate has been coordinated with the Bekasi City Transportation Department and the Duren Jaya Sub-district, Bekasi Timur District.
In the future, KAI will continue to coordinate and encourage stakeholders, both central and local government agencies, to determine a permanent handling solution to improve safety, including through the construction of non-level crossings, such as flyovers or underpasses.
KAI Daop 1 Jakarta urges the public to always prioritise train journeys and increase vigilance when crossing level crossings by stopping briefly, looking to the right and left, and ensuring the conditions are truly safe before crossing, whether at guarded or unguarded crossings.
