Tempo journalist's SOS message before capture by the Israeli Navy
Tempo TV journalist Andre Prasetyo Nugroho from Indonesia released an international SOS signal before he was captured by the Israeli Navy while carrying out a humanitarian mission with the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) on Monday, 18 May 2026. “Hello everyone, I am Andre Nugroho, I am from Indonesia, I am a journalist. If you are watching this video, it means I have been captured by the Zionist regime of Israel,” he said in a video released by Global Peace Convoy Indonesia on Monday. Nugroho also explained that Israel continues to commit genocide and killings in Gaza. Humanitarian movements such as the GSF are being hijacked by Israel to deny aid to Gaza. “I also ask President Prabowo Subianto to continue supporting efforts by movements like the Global Sumud Flotilla and to remain on the humane side and continue to fight for the issue of Palestinian independence,” he said. Nugroho was not alone; he was detained alongside four other Indonesian nationals who took part in the same mission. They are Andi Angga Prasadewa from Rumah Zakat, who was aboard the vessel Josef. Finally, Republika journalist Bambang Noroyono, or Abeng, who was aboard the vessel BoraLize. The spokesperson of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu RI), Yvonne Mewengkang, in her statement revealed that at least 10 Global Sumud Flotilla ships were captured by Israeli troops. The Indonesian government through Kemenlu RI has urged Israel to release the Indonesian nationals they have captured.
