Temperatures Reach 42 Degrees, 23 Indonesian Hajj Pilgrims Die in Saudi Arabia
The Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) has recorded a total of 23 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims who have died in Saudi Arabia up to Saturday (9/5).
Spokesperson for Kemenhaj, Ichsan Marsha, expressed condolences for the passing of three Indonesian pilgrims on Saturday (9/5), namely Rodiyah Wayan, Kamariah Dul Tayib, and Nursidah Sinrang Sijarra.
“Thus, the number of pilgrims who have passed away in Saudi Arabia to date is 23 people. We pray that all the deceased pilgrims receive a good end and the best place by Allah SWT. To the families left behind, may they be granted strength and patience,” Ichsan said in a written statement on Monday (11/5).
On the other hand, Kemenhaj has also recorded that 67 pilgrims are still undergoing treatment in Saudi Arabian hospitals.
Ichsan asked pilgrims to reduce non-urgent activities, especially during the day, to drink more plain water, maintain a healthy diet, and make the most of rest time.
He stated that the current temperature in Mecca and Medina ranges from 38 to 42 degrees Celsius.
“The peak of Hajj is a phase of worship that requires a lot of stamina. Do not let your energy run out before it’s time. Prioritise obligatory worship, reduce physically draining activities, and report any health issues immediately, no matter how small,” said Ichsan.
He also asked elderly pilgrims, those with disabilities, and pilgrims with comorbidities to always be accompanied and actively coordinate with health officers.
“Our health services are on standby 24 hours, but success in maintaining health greatly depends on the pilgrims’ own discipline. Do not delay reporting if you feel unwell,” he said.
Entering the 20th day of Hajj operations for 1447 H/2026 AD, Indonesia’s Hajj pilgrimage services are running smoothly in general.
Up to Sunday (10/5), 323 flight groups (kloter) with a total of 125,243 pilgrims and 1,289 staff have been dispatched to Saudi Arabia.
Of that number, 204 kloter with 78,946 pilgrims and 816 staff have arrived in Mecca after moving from Medina to perform the obligatory Umrah and prepare for the peak of the Hajj worship.
