Temanggung Regency Government Seeks Resolution to Social Issues on Land for People's School

Temanggung (ANTARA) - The Temanggung Regency Government is continuously working to resolve social issues concerning a plot of regional government-owned land spanning approximately 5.2 hectares, related to the planned construction of the People’s School in Ngadirejo.

The Secretary of the Temanggung Regency Government, Tri Winarno, in Temanggung on Sunday, explained that the land is an official regional asset that meets the minimum standard for the People’s School construction, namely five hectares.

“The only location that meets the minimum five-hectare standard is there; we are still focusing on that site,” he said.

Nevertheless, Winarno stated, the regency government still needs to address the social issues with residents who have been utilising the land through a leasing system.

He explained that the lease period had actually ended in 2024, and according to the agreement, if not extended, the land must be returned to the regional government.

“So far, we have tried to remind them that the lease has expired, whether it will be extended or not. The agreement also stipulates that two months before the lease expires, there must be notification of whether it will be re-leased or not, but there was no response,” Winarno revealed.

After the plan for the People’s School construction emerged, the regency government requested that the land be vacated. However, some residents still consider the land as their cultivation area, even though administratively and legally it has become a regional government asset.

He mentioned that there are around 21 people who signed the lease agreement, while the number of residents utilising the land reaches 24.

Winarno stated that the Regent of Temanggung wants the social issues related to the land to be resolved properly before construction takes place.

In a letter submitted to the regional government, some residents are said to still oppose the People’s School construction at that location because the land is their source of livelihood.

He added that the regional government is continuing to approach and communicate with the residents to find the best solution for all parties.
