Temanggung Regency Government guarantees smooth chicken meat supply

The Cooperative, SME, and Trade Office of Temanggung Regency, Central Java, has guaranteed that the supply of chicken meat is sufficient to meet public needs, even though market prices have increased.

“Although prices have risen, the availability of chicken meat at Pasar Kliwon Temanggung is confirmed to still be sufficient for the community’s needs,” said Aditiya Hendikurniawan, Head of the Pasar Kliwon Temanggung Technical Implementation Unit, in Temanggung on Monday.

He said the increase in chicken meat prices is thought to be influenced by high market demand.

“About three weeks ago the price was still Rp35,000 per kilogram. Up to now it has gradually risen to Rp42,000 to Rp43,000 per kilogram. This increase is likely due to high demand, so market prices have also risen,” he said.

According to him, the supply of chicken meat to Pasar Kliwon Temanggung is still running smoothly and has not encountered any obstacles. Every day, the supply of chicken meat entering the market reaches more than 10 quintals.

“As for meat availability, God willing, Pasar Kliwon Temanggung has enough to serve the community. There are no obstacles related to supply or availability,” he said.

However, the price increase has begun to affect people’s purchasing power. When chicken meat prices rise, some people choose to reduce the amount they buy.

“When prices are high, people automatically reduce their shopping compared to previous days,” he said.

A chicken meat trader, Siti Rohana, said the price increase has been occurring for almost three weeks. Before prices continued to rise, chicken meat was sold in the range of Rp30,000 to Rp32,000 per kilogram.

“Previously, when children had not yet returned to school, it was Rp30,000, Rp31,000, Rp32,000 per kilogram. It has kept rising until now,” she said.

She expressed hope that chicken meat prices will not rise again. According to her, although supply from suppliers is running smoothly, market conditions are relatively quiet and public demand is not very high.

“Our hope is that it will not rise again. The price increase has been going on for almost three weeks. Supply is smooth, with average supply of around one quintal,” she said.

According to her, consumers are now tending to reduce the amount of chicken meat they buy to adjust to price conditions.

“Since the increase, public demand has not been very high. Many traders are complaining because prices are very expensive. Buyers have not gone so far as to protest, but many have decided not to buy. Those who usually buy one kilogram now buy half a kilogram,” she said.
