Teluk Nibung Customs Destroys Rp 1 Billion Worth of Seized Goods

The Teluk Nibung Customs and Excise Office has destroyed 150 bales of used clothing, 37,537 illegal cigarettes, and various other goods resulting from customs and excise enforcement actions, with a total value reaching Rp 1,005,824,885. The destruction took place on Tuesday (30/6/2026) at the Teluk Nibung Customs Temporary Storage Facility in Bagan Asahan, Asahan Regency, North Sumatra.

Head of the Teluk Nibung Customs Office, Nutriwan Cahyono Putro, explained that the destroyed items were the result of enforcement actions from the period of June 2024 to April 2026. The commodities destroyed consisted of various types of goods from customs violations, including 150 bales of used clothing, 19 bales and 50 pieces of used textile products, 61 bales and 1,752 pieces of processed food and beverages, 4 bales and 6,707 pharmaceutical products, 62 used mobile phones, 2 used laptops, 3 bales and 304 cosmetic items, one car door, and 57 religious items.

Teluk Nibung Customs also destroyed excisable goods in the form of tobacco products, specifically 37,537 illegal cigarettes, 96 bottles of beverages containing ethyl alcohol, and 7 vape pods that violated statutory provisions.

Nutriwan stated that the destruction is a tangible form of law enforcement and his office’s commitment to protecting the public and creating a healthy business climate. “This destruction is a manifestation of Customs’ commitment to enforcing provisions in the customs and excise sector. We destroy seized goods that have been designated as state-owned goods in accordance with regulations so they do not circulate in the community,” he said.

He also explained that the destroyed goods were dominated by used imported clothing and illegal cigarettes. According to him, enforcement against these two commodities is part of efforts to protect national industries, compliant business operators, and micro, small, and medium enterprises from unfair business competition.

“Through enforcement against used clothing and illegal cigarettes, we want to ensure the domestic market remains healthy, favours domestic products, and provides fair space for industry and MSMEs to grow. Ultimately, this effort also contributes to safeguarding jobs and supporting national economic growth,” he said.

The success of the enforcement actions was inseparable from the synergy between Teluk Nibung Customs and various law enforcement officers and local governments in its working area, which includes Asahan Regency, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Labuhanbatu Regency, South Labuhanbatu Regency, and Tanjungbalai City.
