Telstra enters East Timor
SYDNEY (Dow Jones): Telstra Corp., Australia's dominant telecommunications concern, said Monday it has rebuilt a substantial part of the communications infrastructure to provide local calls in Dili, the capital of the former Indonesian province of East Timor.
The company said international calls to and from East Timor have also been reestablished with Telstra's installation of an international exchange.
East Timor now has its own country access code, 6729, Telstra said.
East Timor voted for independence from Indonesia last year, which led to widespread looting and rioting.
