Telkomsel is expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia with a focus on developing the digital talent ecosystem.

The state-owned mobile operator is not only developing AI technology but also encouraging the public to utilise AI as a means of creative expression.

This commitment is reflected in the AI Cinefest 2026 event, which collected 1,111 AI-based short films from various regions across Indonesia.

This achievement surpassed the initial target of 1,000 works and demonstrates growing public enthusiasm for using AI in the creative industry.

From that number, only the 100 best participants were selected to take part in a Curated Workshop.

All submitted works were curated by Arief Ash Shiddiq, Story Editor, and Immanuel Manurung, AI Storyteller.

As part of the digital talent development programme, selected participants attended a Curated Workshop to deepen their end-to-end AI filmmaking competencies, from idea development to film production using generative AI technology.

Vice President Brand Communications Telkomsel, Emir G. Surya, said AI Cinefest was created as a platform for Indonesian creators to utilise AI as a new medium for creative work.

“Together with our ecosystem partners, we want to expand access to technology, learning, and collaboration to encourage the growth of AI creator talent and an ecosystem that is increasingly creative, inclusive, and competitive,” Emir said in Jakarta on Friday evening (7/8/2026).

A total of 10 best works were selected to be showcased at the AI Cinefest Exhibition held from 5-7 August 2026 at M Bloc Space, Jakarta.

The programme is also supported by Huawei and MiniMax, which helped enrich the participants’ experience through access to technology, learning, and various AI applications.
