Jakarta (ANTARA) – Telkomsel is preparing 296 4G and 5G base stations to anticipate a surge in communications demand during the 2026 MotoGP Mandalika at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, from 9 to 11 October.

Nugroho Adi Wibowo, Vice President of Area Network Operations for Java and Bali, said the international race in Mandalika was an important occasion that also helped boost tourism and the regional economy.

“Telkomsel is committed to providing the best connectivity by optimising its 4G and 5G networks, including the use of the 2,600 MHz frequency for 5G services, so that local people, tourists and everyone involved can stay connected and enjoy an optimal digital experience throughout the event,” he said in an official statement received by ANTARA in Jakarta on Sunday.

He said the company had put 279 4G base stations and 17 5G base stations on standby.

The network upgrades cover 30 strategic locations, from the circuit, airport and harbour to routes leading to Mandalika, as well as accommodation and recreation areas. The infrastructure is intended to support the communications needs of visitors, tourists, participants and race organisers.

The 2,600 MHz frequency will be used to increase 5G network capacity. In addition to optimising existing base stations, Telkomsel has built seven new sites inside the circuit complex and added two Compact Mobile Base Transceiver Station (COMBAT) units.

The company estimates that the prepared service capacity can accommodate around 60,000 users during the MotoGP event. The upgrades are important for meeting internet access and communications needs amid large crowds.

Services will be supported by 30 outlets offering assistance with products, registration for international customers and information about promotions.

Telkomsel is also offering a daily free-call programme to all operators through the code 88811#, as well as a choice of Internet Super Seru packages. For overseas visitors, international roaming is available through partnerships with operators in 191 countries.
