PT Telkomsel continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting equitable access to telecommunications in frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) areas, including Miangas Island in Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi. General Manager of Network Region Operations and Productivity for Telkomsel Sulawesi, Asep Hermawan, stated in a written release in Manado on Tuesday that Telkomsel is ensuring the readiness and reliability of the network on Miangas to support the community’s communication needs. “The strengthening of 4G capacity is being carried out to deliver stable and quality connectivity in the border region of Sulut,” said Asep. According to him, since 2018, Telkomsel, together with the government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) and the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI), has provided telecommunications and internet access through the construction of USO BTS (Universal Service Obligation) for 2G and 4G in this area. He said Telkomsel continues to improve service quality on Miangas by strengthening 4G network capacity so that it can serve community needs more optimally. “The presence of this 4G network opens opportunities for the community to enjoy faster and more stable digital services, from access to information, education, healthcare services, to supporting local economic activities and UMKM,” he stated. Telkomsel also provides social contributions in the form of communication devices, namely 50 smartphone units for the people of Miangas Island to encourage digital inclusion, as expressed by President Prabowo and the Minister of Komdigi during their visit to Miangas on Saturday (9/5). The presence of a more reliable network opens opportunities for the development of digital outlets and businesses, including buying and selling activities through digital platforms. In addition, strengthening the digital ecosystem also plays a role in increasing digital literacy among the community, from education access, promotion of regional potential such as tourism, to supporting local economic activities like marketing fisheries products and regional flagship products. Meanwhile, the Miangas Sub-District Head, Olita Papalapu, expressed appreciation for Telkomsel’s support in providing telecommunications services on Miangas. Telkomsel will continue to strengthen the national digital ecosystem and support the welfare of communities in border areas by collaborating with various parties to provide inclusive and sustainable connectivity.
