Telkomsel president to be replaced

JAKARTA: State telecommunications company PT Telkom, the majority shareholder of PT Telkomsel, plans to relieve Bajoe Narbito, the current president of the country's top cellular operator, from duty.

"We have determined (the successor), but we are waiting for approval from Singtel," said Telkom's president Kristiono here on Tuesday, referring to the Singapore-based telecommunications firm that owns 35 percent of Telkomsel.

He refused to name the candidates for the top post.

Bajoe, who led the company to reach 16.3 million subscribers by the end of 2004, has had his retirement postponed twice, with the latest being until the end of February. -- JP
