Telkomsel Invites the Public to Protect the Environment on Earth Day
Telkomsel is hosting the Telkomsel Jaga Bumi Movement environmental conservation initiative in various regions of Indonesia to mark Earth Day on 22 April 2026. In line with the global Earth Day theme “Our Power, Our Planet”, this initiative aims to collectively reduce carbon emissions by opening up direct action opportunities for the public, from hosting green innovation competitions for the younger generation to enabling hundreds of millions of customers to donate trees via Telkomsel Points redemption.
Vice President of Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility at Telkomsel, Abdullah Fahmi, recognises that the public has a strong desire to preserve the environment, provided they have access and infrastructure that facilitates their actions.
“Therefore, Telkomsel Jaga Bumi is not merely a corporate social programme, but a platform for collaboration. We provide a comprehensive ecosystem, from innovation competitions to features for exchanging points for trees, so that every individual can make a tangible impact on the Earth and future generations,” he stated in an official release on Friday (24/6/2026).
Telkomsel has designed the Telkomsel Jaga Bumi Movement to spark public participation through three pillars of action:
Telkomsel Jaga Bumi Future Impact Challenge: A national competition inviting young people aged 15-35 to compete with ideas and real actions in creating innovative solutions to environmental challenges and climate change. Telkomsel is opening registrations from 22 April until the curation period on 5-10 July 2026. The best participants will present their ideas at the final pitching session on 15 July, before the awarding session in Yogyakarta on 18 July 2026.
Talkshow Series: Telkomsel is bringing together practitioners, experts, and environmental advocacy communities with industry players in six discussion sessions on various topics and themes related to climate issues, circular economy, and the future of the environment, running from 19 May to 16 July 2026.
Tree Planting & Workshops: Telkomsel is also inviting environmental advocacy communities to take direct action at four strategic locations in the Telkomsel Jaga Bumi Lestari event for tree planting and workshops with local residents, namely in Ciampea Bogor (4-6 June), Palu (18-20 June), Pesisir Selatan Sumatera Barat (2-4 July), and Kulon Progo Yogyakarta (16-18 July 2026).
In addition to targeting the younger generation, Telkomsel is making it easier for hundreds of millions of its customers to become environmental heroes from the palm of their hand. In collaboration with the Jejak.in platform, Telkomsel is reopening the Carbon Offset programme. Customers simply need to redeem 5,000 Telkomsel Points (equivalent to 0.1 tree) or 50,000 Telkomsel Points (equivalent to 1 tree) via the MyTelkomsel super app or SMS. Telkomsel will send periodic updates on the trees’ progress directly to customers’ emails.
On the waste management side, Telkomsel is continuing its plastic recycling programme with partners PlusTik and Liberty Society. This programme collects and recycles used SIM card packaging and prepaid card shells from Telkomsel’s reseller outlet network to transform them into ready-to-use products such as paving blocks, bins, multi-purpose boxes, prepaid card and phone holders for Outlet Partners. Telkomsel also collects used clothes and garments from employees to process them into value-added items.
Telkomsel Jaga Bumi is not only targeting customers but also emphasising the active role of employees as agents of change. Through several internal initiatives such as Green Challenge, Smart Mobility Initiative, Energy Saving Movement, and Carbon Calculator Activation, employees are encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly behaviours in their daily lives.
Since 2022, Telkomsel Jaga Bumi has successfully engaged more than 121,000 customers in the carbon offset programme through Telkomsel Points redemption and has achieved over 39,000 trees planted in 13 cities/regencies, with a conservation area of 37 hectares and absorbing more than 83 tCO2e in carbon emissions.
